Golden Rice could save millions of children’s health, globally.

anti-GMO activists would rather see these children go blind and die.

Golden Rice can end the biggest killer of children in the world Greenpeace must stop their opposition to it.

  1. Please read up on Golden Rice – no single company makes any profit of it, and it is meant to provide an essential vitamin in a portion of the diet that is essential for children in that part of the world – rice.

The organization producing (or, trying to) GR won’t make it available commercially (a mistake, imo, as I would like to buy some and taste it), and is basically planning to give it away to rice farmers, to replace the regular non-vitamin-A crops. Unpolished rice does not provide sufficient vitamin-A to offset the deficiency in those regions.

  2. “These kids need a balanced diet” – yes, they do. If they had the remotest opportunity to have one, we wouldn’t be having this conversation.

  3. This:

“It was not until 2004 that the first field trial was conducted in Louisiana, which proved Golden Rice produced sufficient beta-carotene under farm conditions.

Then in 2005, with the help of the Syngenta Foundation, a new variety of Golden Rice was produced that contained 23 times as much beta-carotene as the original strain. This, along with studies on human uptake of beta-carotene from Golden Rice, now provides proof Golden Rice will be effective in preventing vitamin A deficiency with a cup of rice per day.”

  4. “…provide an essential vitamin in a portion of the diet that is essential for children in that part of the world – rice” – in fact, provide dozens of times the regular rate, in order to help families for whom rice is one of the only edibles. It’s not like you can just fly carrots to these people.
