Of course, when such an obvious thing is pointed out to those who are heavily invested in their faith, the usual come-back is “Gee, don’t you believe that there is *anything* beyond what you can see?” (when I am done rolling my eyes at that idiocy, my general reply is “Nope, because there isn’t.”)

It’s particularly frustrating when people that might be otherwise intelligent fall for this, or engage in this.
